In my role as staff at the Harvey Milk Photo Center in San Francisco, California— I had the privilege to co-found the San Francisco Photobook Fair in 2025.
“The Harvey Milk Photo Center (HMPC) is proud to present the inaugural San Francisco Photobook Fair, an annual gathering celebrating photobooks in all forms and formats. This groundbreaking event brings together photobook publishers and artists across disciplines and genres, establishing San Francisco as a vital hub for contemporary photobook culture. Co-founded by Harvey Milk Photo Center Director Melissa Castro Keesor, HMPC staff member Katherine Akey, and artist and publisher Luis Cobelo, with the support of the Friends of the Harvey Milk Photo Center, the fair creates a dynamic platform for discovering, collecting, and celebrating the art of the photobook. The San Francisco Photobook Fair transforms the Harvey Milk Photo Center into a vibrant marketplace of visual storytelling. Visitors will encounter an extraordinary range of photobooks, from intimate artist editions to major publications, representing diverse perspectives and innovative approaches to the medium. This inaugural event establishes a new annual tradition that celebrates the unique power of photobooks to document, interpret, and reimagine our world.”
